Engineering Glowbuzzer

Challenge#

The glowbuzzer React library allows customers to easily create a sophisticated 3D scene of their robot or machine environment using three.js. However, many customers need to import STEP files into the scene and then want to be able to interact with the geometry of the model to pick out points, lines and so on. These are used in the resulting program (set of moves) transmitted to the machine or robot.

The Buerli React components are able to load STEP files and provide an API to visually select objects in the model. We were able to integrate this into an end-to-end application that lets customers quickly create a complete robot program based on the model.

Challenge#

We have created an online configuration tool for one of our products and wanted to provide an automatically generated 3d model and drawings to our customers. The customers should be able to get the correct models based on their input values almost instantly, without the involvement of an engineering department.

Modelling#

The main work was to create simplified models and automatize the process with the Buerli history API. Internally, we use solidworks for the design of our products. Many parts in the assembly however are not parametric and thus exporting the models as step files and reusing them was perfect. We used Buerligons for sketching and standard extrusion / revolve features for the parametric models. We can now control the models using expressions. For 3d assemblies, mates are positioned within parts and 3d constraints are then used to position parts within the assembly. Our web developer used the Buerli history API to control creation and dimensioning of parts and assembling the complete product. Output is a STEP assembly as well as a 2d drawing exported as DXF and svg.

We were one of the first Beta Users and therefore needed some support from AWV, because of some missing documentation and features. AWV went above and beyond to understand our application and requirements and provide the best possible solutions for us. We were able to realize the models and integration for a second product line without additional support.

Challenge#

The company manufactures components for electronic component testing at the end of series production. Especially in the automotive sector, due to the multitude of different connectors, several new test adaptations are required for each new product. The high degree of customization of the products produced in small series results in high development effort, high costs, and long lead times. The startup has set itself the goal of significantly reducing development effort through digitization and automation, thereby becoming fast and economically attractive.

"Our aim is to reduce the development effort from 3 weeks to 1 week. For this purpose, we require a powerful parametric CAD system that runs in the cloud and is fully integrated into our product configurator." Jakob Weber, CEO at wemonte

Solution#

"We evaluated various CAD systems before choosing buerli.io. Most providers are high-priced, overloaded with features, and impose their own ecosystem on users," says Weber.

Wemonte desired a system that seamlessly integrates with the product configurator, can be automated and controlled 'headless,' and at the same time, offers the full capacity of a mature CAD tool. The models configured interactively by the customer are directly used as input geometry for additive manufacturing and must, therefore, be watertight and precise.

Result#

In collaboration with buerli and the developers of the product configurator, the startup has successfully developed a functional configurator for test adapters with an integrated CAD system in its first year of operation, which represents a true innovation in the market. The automated control of the parametric CAD model significantly accelerates the design and development of the test adapters. At the same time, the deployed technology provides a highly powerful tool for realistic real-time visualization of the configured products. "With buerli, you can sense the passion that is put into the project. In addition to the mature technology, it was particularly the outstanding support and fast response time that impressed us," says Weber.
